CLASS FOCUS:
HARDWARE & MECHANICAL - MECHANISM & MOTION

WHAT TO STUDY TO GET INTO ROBOTICS?

Building a Robot can be divided into software, hardware, actuators and sensors. Building the actual robot is the job of mechanical engineers. The hardware piece of the robot is a completely different field from the software side. This class material will focus on the Mechanical aspects of building a custom robot.
CREATE VERSUS BUY AND BUILD
Basically anyone can buy a robot off the shelf, put it together & get it running. To create your own 3D design you need a fundamental understanding of mechanisms; ie: grippers; walking; climbing; swimming; flying …
These concepts are critical if you plan to continue with Mechanical Engineering at a higher level.
DYNAMICS & KINEMATICS
All robots have some kind of mechanical construction designed to achieve a certain task. If you understand how mechanisms work, you can create custom robots to fit all sorts or applications. But to understand how to create mechanisms you need to first understand 3D CAD Design and Modeling.  After you complete the class below you should be ready to get certified with industry grade mechanical software.
